Windows Stagnation

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/29/technology/29digi.html?ref=technology

Good article in the New York Times about the stagnation of the Windows operating system as compared to the evolution of the Mac OS X.

Last year, my son was the first to venture into Apple territory with a purchase of a MacBook. My daughter, tired of the constant viruses that plague her Dell laptop, is demanding a MacBook too. So is my wife.

Can I be far behind?

Mac OS X is Unix:

... and its fully POSIX compliant so most of the Linux/FreeBSD applications will port with little or no modifications.

Linux's big desktop issue is lack of proprietary driver support. This isnt such a big issue with OS X as Apple provides drivers for Apple devices and Apple users generally don't expect support for all PC devices.
